Snæfellsjökuls Run

The Snæfellsjökull Run will be held on June 21, marking the fourteenth occurrence of this event. The race has received very positive feedback in recent years and has been highly successful. The race will start at 12:00 from Arnarstapi. A bus ride from Ólafsvík to Arnarstapi will be available for those who wish to use it.

  • This year, the number of participants will be limited to 350 people.
  • Registration ends at 24:00 on Sunday, June 15.
  • Since the starting point of the race is spacious, everyone will start at the same time.
  • It is recommended that the fastest runners start first.
  • There will be two refreshment stations, managed by the Lifesaving Team Lífsbjörg. Water and energy drinks will be available. Environmentally friendly disposable paper cups will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own drinking containers.
  • Generous raffle prizes will be available.
  • All participants will receive a small gift at the end of the race.

The Race Route

The race route is approximately 22 km long, with most of it on gravel roads. The first 8 km involve running uphill to an altitude of about 700 meters. The route then gradually descends until reaching Ólafsvík. Runners can expect to encounter snow and mud between 1 km and 7 km of the route, depending on the winter’s snow conditions.

Runners will experience the unique natural beauty of the area and the powerful energy of Snæfellsjökull. There will be two refreshment stations managed by the Lifesaving Team Lífsbjörg. At Arnarstapi, a vehicle will be available for runners to leave extra items and clothing, which will be handed out at the Fishermen's Garden in Ólafsvík. Clothing left at the refreshment stations will also be returned to the Fishermen's Garden after the race.
