Welcome to Súlur Vertical
The trail running event Súlur Vertical takes place in Akureyri, August 2th - 4th 2024.
The event consists of four races of Gyðjan (100 km.), Tröllið (42 km.), Súlur (28 km.) and Fálkinn (18 km.), where participants run in the spectacular surroundings of Akureyri. Participants in the Gyðjan 100 km. race will start their race at Goðafoss waterfall, while other races start in Kjarnaskógur. All races finish downtown Akureyri. The longest race includes 3500 m of elevation gain. Participants run some of the mountains surrounding Akureyri, such as Súlur and Vaðlaheiði moor.
The organization Súlur Vertical was established in 2020. The purpose of the organization is, among other things, to promote physical and outdoor activities, host events, increase and improve trails and trail markings in Akureyri and the surrounding areas, increase the popularity of trail running, mountain running and other outdoor physical activities.
