Rauðavatn Ultra 21,1 km / 42,2 km / 100km and 24 hours
Rauðavatn Ultra is a new race that will be held for the first time on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The race is 90% street running and 10% off-road running. The race is the Icelandic Championship in the 100 km run and in parallel there are 21,1 km / 42,2 km and 24 hour races.
Distances:
There is a 21,1 km / 42,2 km / 100 km and 24 hour race where people try to run as many laps around Rauðavatn (3.14km) as people can in that time frame and there is also a 100 km race where runners run 100 km around Rauðavatn = 32 laps. Note that the time limit for the 100km run is 15 hours.
Rules for different distances:
- 21,1 km and 42,2 km = No assistance allowed at the water station or on the course, no extra equipment/bag allowed for 21,1 km but 42,2 km are allowed to have a little box with there gels and drinking flasks. Runners can always use a water station in each lap.
- 24 hours = One assistant allowed right from the start and if there is not too much traffic at the water station then another assistant is allowed after 12 hours (21:00). Here, runners can bring an extra pair of shoes and one carry-on bag that holds nutrition, drinks, clothing, and extra equipment for/during the race. The refreshment station is open to runners in each lap and it is permitted to have a small plastic box/container on the table at the refreshment station with ready-made nutrition for runners (the box/container must be clearly marked runner.
- 100 km = One assistant allowed at the aid station but no assistance on the course. Stop after 24 hours
When the race is whistled off at each distance (we use some kind of intercom/whistle to stop everyone) then runners take off their numbers, put them in a zip-lock bag (get it when submitting the data) and place them on the ground where more people stop and put a stone or gravel on top of the bag which Helgi the timekeeper will then come and collect.

Race number delivery:
Race numbers will be delivered to Sportvörum 2-3 days before the race (more detailed date coming soon) and at Rauðavatn 1 hour before the start og each race/distance.
Location and timing:
The race will start at Rauðavatn in Reykjavík (below Morgunblaðshúsið).
The starting times will be as follows:
NOTE: 21,1 km / 42,2 km and 100 km start inside the course to finish in the right place after the right distence.
Drinking stations
There will be one drinking station at Rauðavatn where the race starts and that station will be inside a large tent, people will run through/pass that station in each lap and decide whether they stop to eat in each lap or less often. Water, energy drinks, sugary soda/magic, hot chocolate, chocolate bars, energy bars, fruit (banana and apple).
NOTE: Some larger meals will be available for 100km and 24 hours during the race .
Route description:
The race is the Rauðavatnshringurinn which is approx. 3.14 km and it is the race through the entire race.
Please note that the race does not start and end at the same place for 21,1 km / 42,2 km and 100 km but in 24 hours there will be markings in the course where runners end when the race is blown off.
