Support group for Ingvi Gunnarsson
This year, Vesturgatan is celebrating its 20th anniversary, but this race first took place in the summer of 2006. It later became, along with the Óshlíðarhlaup, the backbone of the Westfjords Running Festival.
One of the founders of Vesturgatan was Ingvi Gunnarsson, an Ísfjörður native who has long lived in the south but has always shown great care for his home turf. Not long ago, Ingvi was diagnosed with brain cancer and has since been undergoing treatment for the disease both in Iceland and abroad. It is of course extremely challenging to take on such a project, a project that no one would choose to participate in. In addition to everything else that Ingvi and his family have to go through during these times, such a struggle is incredibly expensive.
Ingvi's friends and well-wishers have formed a support group to support him and his family. The Westfjords Running Festival is going to support the support team by donating 10% of all registration fees to it.
